Statue of Juliusz Słowacki
It is a composition showing a fragment of a sitting character, cut at the knee level. The sculpture is a plaster cast reinforced with oakum and wooden slats.
The project was part of the design made for the competition for the statue of Julisz Słowacki held in 1961 in Warsaw. In the magazine Stolica from 1961, Szczepkowski's work is listed as distinguished. Professor Józef Kopczyński turned out to be the winner of the competition. Interestingly, Jan Szczepkowski's design was a processed design of the work that entered the competition for a monument of the poet in Lviv in 1926. Szczepkowski changed the pedestal of the monument in it, keeping, however, the stylized silhouettes of cranes. The bird motif, as in the earlier project, was a quote from Słowacki’s “Grób Agamemnona”. The project showcased in Lviv, was awarded with the first place but was never implemented. Currently, at Bankowy Square in Warsaw, there is a monument created by Edward Wittig, which was unveiled in 2001. The figure of the poet was cast in bronze on the basis of a model preserved in the collection of the National Museum in Warsaw, made in 1932 for the poet's monument intended for Lviv.
It is 120 cm tall, 83 cm wide and 75 cm deep.
